What's the best way to improve self-confidence? In order to get ahead and live life to it's fullest, you need a healthy sense of confidence in yourself and have to trust your abilities. For some people, this is something that just happens naturally, but others need to take proactive steps in order to make themselves confident.
One of the best tips to improve confidence is to become a more action-oriented person. A lot of people who don't trust in their own abilities and talents tend to be people who are "inside their head" a lot. They think a lot, are often intelligent, but it's exactly this quality that can turn against them.
Their own minds start to criticize them, and they do it in really smart and sneaky ways. Pay close attention to your inner dialogue. Everybody has a voice in their head that talks to them all day long. It's like a constant background chatter. Sometimes we are more aware of it than at other times. For the next couple of days, simply pay precise attention to this voice in your head. Listen to what it's saying. Chances are that you will hear a lot of negative talk.
Also pay attention to the tone of voice - this can make a huge difference. For example, you might catch your inner voice telling you: "I knew you'd screw that up, you're not good for anything." You could simply repeat that with a silly cartoon voice and make it sound ridiculous. If that's sounds childish to you, it's exactly what you want. Make fun of your inner critique. If you can, also feed yourself better words. So instead of blaming you for what's gone wrong, you want your inner voice to encourage you and say things like: "That's okay, everybody makes mistakes sometimes. You can do it, you just have to try again."
But one of the most powerful ways to gain self-confidence is to face your fears. Lack of confidence is basically a form of excessive fear. When you do something that you're afraid of every single day, you become less fearful - and your confidence improves. You do not need to do something extreme like bungee jumping or paragliding. Just small things that give you a slight adrenaline kick. If you are shy, simply talk to a stranger on your way to work. You do not need to do big things, but you need to do small fear-challenges every single day to build up your courage and confidence muscles.
